This reminds me of the Canadian poet Robert Service, and his poem Song of the Wage Slave; the opening lines of which read:

Humans only survive for 3-5 days without water...
by purrpurr inand yet today's watchtower and indeed the bible condemns the israelites for moaning about having no water!
it's never occurred to me how unjust this is!
and how could a so called loving god not provide a basic human need?!.

Once again, those familiar with Jewish history would be quick to tell us that the Jewish writers of the Old Testament never intended their stories to be taken literally.
Why would you want to get bent all out of shape over a collection of Middle East fairy tales?

Influence of Babylon the Great is only increasing
by Ireneus inaccording to jw teaching, babylon the great is the name for all other religions except themselves and predicted its influence over governments would wane in the last days.
yet we find just opposite happening!.
we saw russian government acting against jws, we saw president trump’s swearing in ceremony where church official had central stage ….etc.. here is another sample!

A "gem" of wisdom I remember from the mid-1970s was their quoting of a certain verse in Revelation about the "River Euphrates running dry". Crazy Fred maintained that this scripture was even then being fulfilled - with the membership of "Babylon the Great" steadily declining.
At the time of that brilliant observation, the Catholic church had a total membership of about 750 million. Today, that number has almost doubled to 1.285 billion. The desert sands of the Middle East must be waterlogged or something - not doing a very good job of running the river dry!

This story reminds me of a character I knew who used to boast about being in the French Foreign Legion.
He persisted in telling anybody who would listen how he "killed people with his bare hands" - even though his bare hands were unable to prevent the bus driver from throwing him out of the vehicle, after the passengers grew tired of his bragging.

Are Jehovahs Witnesses false prophets
by joe134cd ini thought this was a very interesting argument by robert king.
i liked the point he made about if israel had a prophet who spoke in the name of jehovah and it did not occur did this mean that the nation of israel was a false prophet or more so if the nation of israel sincerely believed it.
the answer to that is a resounding no because the nation of israel was god’s appointed nation.

DoC,
I think you are right! This does very much come over as a "play on words".
Also chucked into the mix is a goodly measure of circular reasoning:
- Israel was "God's Chosen People". Who says? The bloody Israelites did - nobody else!
- The by inference, he is suggesting that the JWs themselves are "God's Chosen People". Who says? Again, the bloody JWs say that (definitely nobody else!)

What JW habits do you still have?
by Exelder insince leaving the jw's after over 4 decades, i can see exactly what it is and hate everything it stands for.
however, there are still some jw habits and traits that i can't get rid of:.
1. i can't swear in general conversation (i'd have to be really angry).

In its issue of July 15, 1976, The Watchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date,
It was a lot of bloody good telling everybody this in July of 1976 - the damage was already done!
The old story of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted comes to mind here.

You DO recieive a college education from reading Awakes!
It is called a Bachelor of Stupidity, and is awarded by the University of Lower Crackpot in Northern Tasmania.
Seriously, I can only agree with everybody else here’s negative remarks about that certain Awake article in May of 1969. Being 14 when that was printed, I, too was affected by it. Last year, when I confronted some JWs at a literature cart about this, I was assured that “you are not old”. (That, when in 1969, the average life expectancy of a man was only 68!).

In a word, no.
Practically, every one I have involvement with is of a similar mind to me
ie. has little confidence in any of them, and does not allow themselves to get bent all out of shape over the matter of politics.
